The long-standing experience and perspectives of the CEI as the oldest and largest intergovernmental forum promoting regional cooperation and serving as a bridge between macro-regions, was presented at the workshop dedicated to the role of Civil Society organisations (CSOs) in democracy building and EU integration, in the framework of the 3rd Annual forum of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR), on 26 and 27 June 2014.

Within the framework of the Austrian CEI Presidency 2014, the meeting of the CEI PD Parliamentary Committee was held in Vienna on 10 - 12 June 2014.
Under the title "Education as foundation for prosperity" the gathering was chaired by Susanne Kurz, President of CEI-PD and Head of the Austrian Delegation to the CEI-PD.

The CEI Know‐how Exchange Programme (KEP) is a development instrument aimed at supporting the transfer of experience from organisations in the EU to peers in the non‐EU countries within the CEI region. The rationale of the programme is based on the assumption that economic development in non‐EU countries can be strengthened through the transfer of best practices and benchmarks already in place in more advanced economies.

On 19 June 2014, the first conference of the project “Improving Environmental Monitoring and Disaster Prevention Capacity in Drina river basin – Phase II” was held in Trebinje, Republic of Srspka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The gathering involved the Regional Agency for Disaster Prevention and Environment (ARPA ER) of the Emilia-Romagna region (Italy) as know-how provider and national Hydrometeorological Service of Republika Srpska (Bosnia and Herzegovina) as well as the Hydrometeorological and the Seismological Institute of Montenegro as beneficiaries.

On 17 June 2014 the European Commission adopted the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR).
Building upon the favourable experience gained from the two macro-regional strategies (EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, EU Strategy for the Danube Region), the European Council had requested the European Commission to present a new EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region before the end of 2014.

The Regional Unit of Thesprotia’s Council Chamber hosted on 4-5 June, 2014 in Igoumenitsa, Greece, the 3rd project meeting and steering committee of the project ACROSSEE - Accessibility improved at border CROSsings for the integration of South East Europe. The steering committee of the project, the second-last preceding the project’s final conference, which will take place in Vienna at the end of the year, had the major intent of sustaining the set of project goals.

The CEI took part in the 4th WIDER Steering Committee Meeting which took place in Civitanova Marche (Italy) on 4 and 5 June 2014. Organised by the project lead partner, SVIM Marche from Italy, the meeting gathered all project partners as well as a number of Local Innovation Community (LIC) experts.

Around 100 representatives from more than 60 projects participated in the Joint Communication Training coorganised by the South East Europe (SEE) and Mediterranean Transnational Programmes (MED) on 2-3 June in Bled (Slovenia). The CEI and the RCC signed a new two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) yesterday, 3 June 2014, in Vienna. The Ceremony took place on the occasion of the Annual Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the CEI Member States, before the Austrian Federal Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs, Sebastian Kurz, and all the invited guests.

A meeting of the CEI Committee of National Coordinators (CNC) was held today in Vienna. The agenda focused on the preparations of the Meeting of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs taking place tomorrow, 3 June, back to back with the Conference on the Western Balkans. The National Coordinators, in particular, finalised the drafting of the Communiqué, which will be discussed and adopted tomorrow by the Ministers.

The President of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region (FVG), Debora Serracchiani and the Secretary General of the Central European Initiative (CEI), Giovanni Caracciolo di Vietri signed an agreement on 26 May 2014, for strengthening cooperation between the two parties and further developing relations between the FVG and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
