Representatives of companies and foundations of theatres and festivals from CEI countries and other European countries will gather in Trieste on 21 June - coinciding with the World Music Day - for the International Symposium "Opera Houses and Music Festivals in Central and Eastern Europe: Looking for New Talents and New Audiences”. Among them, the Theater an der Wien, the Timisoara National Theatre, the National Theatre of Bratislava, the International Festival “Sarajevo Winter”, the Macedonian Opera and Ballet, the International Izmir Festival, the Mittelfest. The Artistic Director of the Centre for Fine Arts Brussels – BOZAR and the President of France Festivals will also attend the gathering.
Promoted by the CEI, in cooperation with Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste, the Symposium aims at encouraging synergies and cooperation in view of possible projects co-financed by the European Union to promote and enhance artistic creativity and multidisciplinarity in the framework of the common artistic and cultural heritage of the countries involved.
The relevance of the themes and objectives of the event caught the attention of the Italian Ministry of Culture, and Minister Franceschini has sent a goodwill message that will be delivered to all participants.
The Symposium will be opened by CEI Secretary General, Amb. Giovanni Caracciolo di Vietri, Claudio Orazi, General Manager and Artistic Director of Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi; Roberto Cosolini, Mayor of Trieste, and Gianni Torrenti, Regional Councilor for Culture, Autonomous Region Friuli Venezia Giulia.
The morning session will focus on the opportunities for access to EU funds and the prospects for culture through the EU programmes 2014-2020. Keynote speeches will be delivered by Emilio Dalmonte, Deputy Head, European Commission Representation in Italy, Rome; Cristina Loglio, Chair of Working Table “Creative Europe”, Italian Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MIBACT); Darko Brlek, Artistic Director and General Manager of the Ljubljana Festival and President of EFA (European Festivals Association), and Marco Marinuzzi, Consultant in European Policies and International Relations, Autonomous Region Friuli Venezia Giulia.
The afternoon session envisages a roundtable to discuss concrete project ideas and opportunities for collaborations and co-productions. All invited participants will contribute, under the coordination of Teatro Verdi and the Ravenna Festival Foundation.
"This is an opportunity - says Claudio Orazi - to share and discuss topics related to international cooperation and access to European funds mainly aimed at promoting projects inspired by great concreteness and dedicated to the traditional music repertoire as well as to new and young composers and even to dance".
"Enhancing intercultural cooperation, promoting dialogue and the exchange of experience, supporting young talents and the circulation of cultural works are priorities for the CEI, which this year celebrates 25 years since its foundation. Our intention is to intensify the development of projects in this framework, given the key role creative industries can play to promote sustainable development and social cohesion. We believe that support to cultural cooperation, especially in our area, can highly contribute to addressing the challenges of our time "- says Amb. Caracciolo di Vietri.
