Sustainable communities, cities and territories

Migration from rural to urban areas has strained cities, increasing demand for services and resources while exacerbating issues such as inequality, unemployment, and climate change. Rural areas play a crucial role in food production and resource management. Transforming rural and underdeveloped areas into smart, livable places is essential for creating resilient communities.

The CEI supports initiatives to address these challenges, including improving infrastructure, digitalisation, water management, waste treatment, and tourism development. The sustainable transformation of cities and communities is also a priority on the CEI's agenda, with a focus on Ukraine.

CEI activities mainly focus on: enhancing municipal infrastructure and digital services in rural areas, sustainable agriculture, tourism development, supporting social enterprises, and fostering international cooperation among smart communities.
