The second Annual Conference of the Western Balkans Migration Network under the titled „Migration in the Western Balkans: What do we know?“ was held in Sarajevo on 19-20 May.
The conference brought together Western Balkan scholars and policy makers, in order to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and a discussion on migration. It offered a forum for challenging existing models and discourses migration, addressing current policy challenges, and offering solutions for a more civilised treatment of migrants and a better utilisation of human mobility.
Prof. Russel King of the University of Sussex was the keynote speaker of the conference and delivered a speech on the “Return migration and development: theoretical perspectives and insights from the Albanian experience”. Two plenary sessions and eleven panels were held, with three to four panellists in each session. The latter combined presentations from researchers and one presentation from an institution or organisation dealing with migration.
During the event, the first “Hristina Cipusheva Best Paper Award” was awarded to Tena Prelec from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences for her paper on the voting behaviour of Serbian Diaspora.
