The winners of the 2022 edition of the Call for Ideas and Award Competition “IMAGINE” Active Young Citizens for Sustainable Development in Central European Initiative (CEI) and Adriatic Ionian Initiative (AII) Areas have put their prizes to excellent use.
Selected among 60 applications, the first-place winner was the Montenegrin Public High School “Beco Basic” in Plav, Montenegro, with their project "Underage marriages, euphemism for a child marriage, a form of gender inequality (social and economic sustainability)". They were followed by the Technical Education Centre in Ljubljana, Slovenia, with their project "Trike does the trick", and the European Institute of Superior Studies (IESS) in Reggio Emilia, Italy, with their project "IDEE – Integrating Digital and Environmental Education for the twin transition".
The team from "Bećo Bašić" utilised their prize for an educational trip to the United Nations Headquarters in New York from April 18 to 29, 2024. A team of three teachers, six female students, and the school principal embarked on an experience which allowed the students to gain valuable insights into global sustainability efforts and broaden their perspectives on international cooperation and development.
The Technical Education Centre used the award for a school visit to Vienna and the United Nations Office in Vienna on April 24, 2024. Twenty-two students from SIC Ljubljana and ten students from the partner school JUSSŠ "Ivan Uskoković" in Montenegro, gained a deeper understanding of green technologies and sustainability practices, enhancing their project "Trike does the trick," which focuses on developing a green delivery vehicle.
The IESS implemented their project "IDEE – Integrating Digital and Environmental Education for the twin transition," aiming to educate students on the conscious use of digital technologies for environmental purposes. The project involved three experiential workshops for 14/15-year-old students, mixing analog techniques with digital ones to foster new awareness. Sixty IESS students and three teachers participated, along with twenty students and two teachers from San Marino High School in a transnational collaboration. The project, supported by trainers from ImpactHub Reggio Emilia Junior Digital School, emphasised creative learning and practical applications, ensuring that students understood the importance of environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.
The "IMAGINE" initiative was developed and co-funded by the CEI-ES together with the Permanent Secretariat of the AII. Through this initiative, the CEI has reinforced its commitment to the UN 2030 Agenda, promoting youth engagement and sustainable development across the region. This initiative aimed to raise awareness among high school students about the UN Agenda 2030 and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), encouraging them to contribute to local implementation efforts.
