The 11th CEI Venice Forum for Contemporary Art Curators, organised by the Trieste Contemporanea Committee, took place at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice on 19 April 2024 during the pre-opening days of the Venice Biennale.
Held under the title “The agencies we need”, the Forum highlighted the role of non-institutional initiatives to address cultural needs combining artistic creation and public engagement, thus providing new models of art promotion and curatorial practices.
The debate was coordinated by Giuliana Carbi Jesurun, president of the Trieste Contemporanea Committee, and Branko Franceschi, director of the Museum of Modern Art, Zagreb.
Case studies and best practices were presented by outstanding art professionals and curators from CEI Member States. Among these, three art professionals who are also commissioners of the national pavilions, i.e., Ioana Ciocan, Commissioner of the national pavilion of Romania, director of Art Safari, Bucharest; Marin Ivanović, Commissioner of the national pavilion of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Director of the Museum of Modern Art in Mostar; Róna Kopeczky, curator of the national pavilion of Hungary, artistic director of acb Galéria, Budapest.
The Forum is the result of the successful cooperation between the CEI and the Trieste Contemporanea Committee which promotes very effectively a dialogue in the field of contemporary art among the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
Supported by the CEI and the Regione Autonoma Friuli Venezia Giulia, and organised in cooperation with the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, the KCB Cultural Centre of Belgrade, and the Juliet art magazine, the Forum was granted the patronage of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Italian Ministry of Culture, the Italian National Commission for UNESCO, the Regione del Veneto, the Comune di Venezia, the Comune di Trieste, the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, and the University of Trieste.
