The CEI and the South East Europe Media Organisation, in special partnership with the Media Program South East Europe of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, have announced the winners of the “CEI SEEMO Award for Outstanding Merits in Investigative Journalism 2016”: Lindita Çela in the section “Professional Journalists” and Artsiom Harbatsevich in the section “Young Professional Journalists”.

On 8-9 November, the CEI participated in the first conference on mobility in the Alps, organised by the EUSALP (EU Strategy for the Alpine Region) Action Group 4 (AG4) on Transport and Mobility in Innsbruck, Austria.
The meeting was open to the general public and provided a platform for direct exchange with politicians and stakeholders in the EUSALP framework. It was the first of a series of annual events on the theme of mobility in the Alps, organised by the EUSALP AG4 leader, the European Region Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino.

Leading energy specialists, professors and researchers as well as international bodies examined possible alternative energy visions and roadmaps within the workshop for alternative energy planners and modelling experts in Budapest on 3 November. The event aimed at supporting Central- and Eastern European countries (CEE) to develop sustainable energy systems and hence to initiate a research project about a common alternative energy scenario for the entire region of CEE and South Eastern Europe (SEE).

More than 4500 visitors and professionals participated in the events of the 20th edition of the Jihlava Documentary Film Festival on 24-29 October. This high number of participants was attracted by the distinguished programme of this major documentary film festival in Central and Eastern Europe, including 181 film screenings and more than 80 related events.

On 25-27 October, the 12th edition of the biannual International feed technology symposium in Novi Sad gathered researchers from main scientific institutions of Serbia and its neighboring countries, including nearly all CEI Member States, as well as from the United States of America. Besides providing a platform for scientific exchange between university and research institute members, the event also attracted many representatives from the industrial world, thus creating an important forum between and among the academia, producers as well as distributors.

Representatives of music academies of CEI countries gathered in Trieste on 26-28 October to attend the CEI Music Higher Education Network symposium. Organised by the Trieste Conservatory “Giuseppe Tartini” in cooperation with the music academies of Sarajevo and Banja Luka, the event was co-funded by the CEI Cooperation Fund in the framework of the CEI Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2016.

On 27 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, met with a CEI Delegation headed by CEI Secretary General, Giovanni Caracciolo di Vetri.
They exchanged views on the state and prospects for an enhanced cooperation between the CEI and other international organisations, financial institutions and regional integration processes. The two sides also discussed the key elements of interaction with the CEI Secretariat in the context of preparations for the forthcoming CEI Presidency of the Republic of Belarus in 2017.

Under the title “Europe: From the Atlantic to the Urals or between the Atlantic and the Urals?”, the XII International Forum of the Aquileia Euro-Region in Udine on 20-21 October, provided a platform for peaceful politics and the promotion of a united and strong Europe within the global order.

On 20-21 October experts from different academic backgrounds met at the Civico Museo Sartorio in Trieste to hold discussions on “The empress cities: urban centres, societies and economies in the age of Maria Theresia von Habsburg”. The speakers of the well-attended event were able to present an ample panorama of the main factors of the remarkable growth of a number of cities belonging to the former Habsburg Empire under the empress and give an unprecedented comparative picture of the urban phenomenon.

The CEI - PD General Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Franc Trček (Slovenia), and the Meeting of the CEI - PD General Committee on Political and Home Affairs, chaired by Tamara Blažina (Italy), were both held in Ljubljana on 10 October. The former focused in particular on "Energy Union on the Way to Greater Self-Sufficiency: CEI Perspective”, whereas the latter debated upon "The perspectives of European Union after Brexit, facing the migration crisis".

The fifth CEI Committee of National Coordinators (CNC) meeting under the BiH Presidency, in Trieste on 11 October, paid special attention to recent and upcoming events both of the CEI Presidency and of the Secretariat. With regard to the former, the outcome of the recent MFA Meeting held in New York on 22 September and the upcoming CEI Summit in November were highlighted. The Presidency also informed the CNC on the organisation of a CEI Business Forum taking place in November with the timber industry on top of its agenda.

On the occasion of the Meeting of the CEI National Coordinators held in Trieste on 11 October, Italy – through its CEI Fund at the EBRD – committed 955,000 EUR for five technical assistance assignments and six know-how transfer projects targeting non-EU CEI Member States. This pledge demonstrates that the mandate of the CEI Fund at the EBRD remains strongly focused on the EU integration process, and that the tools used to accomplish its mission are an ever-growing number of projects impacting the entire CEI Region.

The final activities of the project “Diversity is Super-City!” were held on 1 October in the form of a regional performance opening the final conference on “Different Cities-Happier Society”.
More than 60 participants from European cultural and public institutions exchanged views on human rights as well as on the inclusion and empowerment of minorities during the event held in Sremski Karlovci, Serbia. The speakers were representatives of the Regional Endeavour for Art, Culture and Health (REACH), the project organiser.

The Ambassadors of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia in Rome, representing the Visegrad Group (V4), visited the CEI Secretariat in Trieste on 5 October.
