More than 4500 visitors and professionals participated in the events of the 20th edition of the Jihlava Documentary Film Festival on 24-29 October. This high number of participants was attracted by the distinguished programme of this major documentary film festival in Central and Eastern Europe, including 181 film screenings and more than 80 related events. On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the festival’s history was presented on Jihlava’s main square and debates focused on its future prospects. The event in the Czech Republic succeeded once again in creating a forum to connect documentary film fans and professionals.
Numerous activities for the promotion of filmmaking were held within the Industry Programme, wherealmost 1000 film professionals were welcomed and hosted in a newly established area in Jihlava specifically for this festival branch. Young professionals had the chance to attend eight masterclasses held by international representatives of filmmaking professions. Within this Programme, the seventh edition of Festival Identity was held with the participation of prominent representatives from major film festivals worldwide in order to share their work experiences and make valuable contacts.
The closing ceremony of the Film Festival took place on the city streets and included awards for the best documentaries in several categories such as Best Czech Documentary Film Award for FC Roma and Normal Autistic Film as well as The Best World Documentary Award for French Spectres Are Haunting Europe.
