In the framework of the International Journalism Festival (Perugia, Italy, 5-9 April 2017), the CEI and SEEMO jointly organised the panel “Press freedom in south-east Europe” on Wednesday, 5 April.
Contributions were delivered by the Croatian journalist Zrinka Vrabec Mojzes, editor of the weekly Nacional, and the investigative journalists Besar Likmeta, from Albania, and Anna Babinets, from Ukraine.

On 21-24 March, a study tour in Trieste was organised in the framework of the project “Maritime Cluster Cooperation Italy-Montenegro - MaCCIM”. The project’s main goal is to support Montenegrin partners in setting up a district related to 'blue economy' businesses. This project is co-financed by the CEI Know-how Exchange Programme through the CEI Fund at the EBRD with 40,000 EUR.

The Central European Initiative (CEI) and the South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO), in special partnership with the Media Program South East Europe of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), have opened the Call for Applications 2017 of the CEI SEEMO Award for Outstanding Merits in Investigative Journalism. The Call is divided into two categories: “Professional journalists” (4.000 EUR) and “Young professional journalists” (1.000 EUR).

The 14th Coordination Meeting of Regional Organisations was held at the CEI Headquarters, in Trieste, Italy on 27-28 March. It was attended by the Adriatic - Ionian Initiative (AII), the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC), the Central European Initiative (CEI), the Council of Baltic Sea States (CBSS), the Danube Commission, the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) and the Union for the Mediterranean Secretariat (UFM Secretariat).

In the framework of the KEP project “Support anti-corruption capacity building in Albania”, 12 high-level representatives of Albanian authorities concluded a four-day study visit to Austria. Participants attended a training at the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) and a lecture at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

The floods that affected Bosnia and Herzegovina in May 2014 caused severe damages to houses, roads and railways. In order to overcome this damage that included the collapse of several bridges and road sections, the EBRD supported Bosnia and Herzegovina by providing a €65 million loan to the state-owned company Roads of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The conference under the title “What holds the future for Europe’s migration and asylum?” took place in Belgrade on 2-3 March. The event was organised in the framework of the Project “SIMPLE migration practice. Sharing best knowledge and EU practice on integration of migrants and existing challenges in Balkan countries. Belgrade (Serbia)”. It brought together more than 30 experts from non-governmental and governmental organisations from 14 CEI Member States strongly affected by the ongoing "refugee crisis".

Enhancing future synergy fields was the main topic of the visit to the Council of Europe (CoE) in Strasbourg paid by a CEI Secretariat delegation.
At the gathering, held on 27 and 28 February, the CEI was represented by Roberto Antonione, Special Adviser to the CEI Secretary General, and Ugo Poli, CEI project manager and Focal Point on Migration.
Fruitful talks with top staff representing CoE Departments focused on the new CoE approach to the institutional building of democratic systems and the enforcement of the rule of law.

The final conference of the project “Graphene-based components and flexible electronic/sensing devices - GRAPHSENS”, was held at the University of Novi Sad, Serbia on 3 March. The event was attended by the key personnel of the project partners and by invited speakers involved in graphene research in Serbia and the EU.

Organised by the media production company Business Info Group (BIG), the event aimed at increasing SME sector operations, cooperation between decision makers and SME representatives as well as at stimulating export growth.

The Partners of the project COME-IN! (Cooperating for Open access to Museums – towards a widEr INclusion), co-funded under the Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Programme, met in Vienna on 13-14 February and agreed on the final version of the Report on Accessibility in Central Europe. The document provides a set of necessary measures and conditions to make small and medium-sized museums accessible to all.
