A delegation of the CEI-Executive Secretariat (CEI-ES), led by the Secretary General Roberto Antonione, paid a visit to Tirana on 28 February 2023, to meet the Deputy Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania, Megi Fino. A meeting was also held with the Secretary General of the Ministry, Gazmend Turdiu.
The interlocutors debated upon the importance of regional cooperation and the European integration process, especially after the recent opening of the accession talks of Albania. In this regard, while agreeing on the importance of continuing the process, they highlighted that furthering ways to promote the European integration of the non-EU CEI countries, all of which are EU candidates, in the framework of regional organisations such as the CEI was key.
Secretary General Antonione presented the recent CEI activities to foster the process and tangible future actions, which the CEI could implement in this framework.
Finally, the interlocutors underlined the importance of organising meetings between the CEI-ES and the CEI Member States, as direct communication and cooperation was crucial to better understand the needs of the countries.
