How do I protect my own body? How does the immune system work? What are stem cells? These are some of the questions you can find answers to on the Healthcare online HERO website, a project financed by the COVID-19 Extraordinary Call for Proposals 2020 under the CEI Cooperation Fund.
It is the only free of charge web platform - in English, Croatian and Italian - where both immunocompromised patients as well as students, teachers and the general public can find scientifically-proven information and news on the COVID-19 pandemic, the SARS-Cov-2 virus, vaccines, development of new therapies as well as explanations regarding basic immunology, stem cells and leukaemia.
It is also a telemedicine platform with a password-protected communication between haematological patients and their medical doctor after they return to their homes and continue with their prescribed therapy.
The Ruđer Bošković Institute in Zagreb (Croatia) and partners especially launched this interactive platform in order to assist patients suffering from haematological diseases and to improve the quality of the medical care which has been compromised by the pandemic.
