On 19 May, the Montenegrin Pan-European Union organised the international conference “Improving climate resilience: connecting the European Green Deal and the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans through the UN Sustainable Development Goals and their indicators” in Podgorica.
Among the interlocutors were: the president of the Montenegrin Pan-European Union, Prof. Ph.D. Gordana Đurović, Ranko Lazović from the Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism, Head of the Office for Sustainable Development at the General Secretariat of the Government of Montenegro Aneta Kankaraš, Ambassador of Germany in Montenegro Peter Felten, Ambassador of France in Montenegro Christian Timonije.
It was overall assessed that Europe is leading the way in setting goals and implementing climate change adaptation policies, and citizens across Southeast Europe are attaching great importance to the fight against global warming and fully support the European Green Deal.
At the conference panel, which discussed the individual experiences of the CEI Member States in connection with the application of sustainable development indicators in the European Green Deal, the participants also stated that it was necessary to direct human civilization towards a harmonious life of people with nature.
Đurović underlined, in particular, that climate change increased the frequency and intensity of extreme climate and weather events, thus affecting all countries in the world. For this reason, according to her, building climate resilience by integrating strategies and action on climate change was of the utmost importance.
