The Digital Health Europe Summit 2021, a three-day event starting on 28 September, was organised for inspiring and forward-looking debates, starting from the results of the HORIZON 2020 project Digital Health Europe (DHE). EU policymakers, funders, digital health experts and other stakeholders at the European level gathered to discuss real-life transformation through digital health. The policy context was presented by Dr. Birgit Morlion, Programme and Policy Officer for the European Commission (DG CNECT), that illustrated priorities and opportunities for digital health.
CEI Senior Expert, Gian Matteo Apuzzo, participated as a speaker to present sustainable approaches to the setup, scale-up, and governance of digital health services. He illustrated many of the current challenges hindering the development and implementation of innovative digital solutions, such as governance and organisational models, users engagement, workforce training, and digital skills, privacy and ethics. Focusing in particular on the Eastern and South-eastern European framework, he highlighted the importance of cross-border and transnational cooperation to accelerate the adoption of digital solutions to surpass the existing barriers blocking the transformation of national health and social care systems.
