A cross border training session on ICT took place in Venice on 27 February 2018 within the framework of the SECNET (Crossborder institutional cooperation for Port Security Enhancement) co-financed by the Interreg programme VA Italy-Slovenia 2014 – 2020.
The seminar organised by the Port of Trieste - lead partner of the project - witnessed the participation of the best experts on the port security of Koper – Capodistria, Venice and Trieste and the relevant departments of the North-Adriatic Universities. Around 50 public officials attended the event and had the opportunity to discuss new solutions to ICT and cyber security.
The outcome of the seminar highlights the need of enhancing security measures through a combination of physical and cyber arrangements, since currently, the weak coordination brings about a slow movement of goods, thus affecting the attractiveness of the ports. Good practices which were favourably assessed by the Security Department of the European Commission during a fact-finding mission last month were also reported in view of their possible application to other European ports.
In fact, SECNET aims at enhancing port security measures in the Northern Adriatic basin by introducing innovative ICT solutions, providing technical expertise and joining cross-border know-how. The knowledge-building achievements will be tested through two pilot actions focused on cyber-security and on perimeter security. The CEI, based on its long-lasting experience in the promotion and financing of projects in the field of transport and logistics, is the partner responsible for the communication and dissemination of the project activities and results.
