The National Coordinators of the Central European Initiative met in Vienna on 10 June 2013. In his welcome speech, Mr. Johannes Kyrle, Secretary General for Foreign Affairs, expressed his appreciation for the Hungarian CEI Presidency. Making reference to next year's Austrian Presidency he emphasised that it would be taking place during the 25th anniversary of the CEI and therefore called for special focus on past achievements and future perspectives. He also pointed out that the new Business Dimension as well as the CEI Plan of Action 2014-16 were important first steps in this direction.
CEI Secretary General, Giovanni Caracciolo di Vietri also underlined the importance of the new CEI Plan of Action, a document aimed at channelling the efforts of the CEI and its Member States into a common and agreed direction. Moreover, he pointed out that 2014 not only would be the 25th anniversary of the CEI but also the year in which the new EU Multiannual Financial Framework 2014 – 2020 would be launched. “Our organisation shall be well equipped to align to the quickly-evolving European political landscape, thus calling for a clear and shared roadmap based on capitalisation of past achievements: it is my belief that following up on previous success stories and best practices is crucial in order to enhance the impact of our forthcoming activities, as well as to better manage our resources”, said Amb Caracciolo di Vietri.
Besides the CEI Plan of Action for the period 2014-2016 and the revitalization of the CEI Business Dimension, special attention was also paid to recent and future developments regarding the CEI participation in EU – funded projects as well as to an overview of the forthcoming activities and events taking place during the second part of the Hungarian CEI Presidency (i.e the Ministers of Foreign Affairs Meeting in Autumn and the CEI Summit at the end of the year).
