The European Grouping for Territorial Cooperation (EGTC), a new European legal instrument designed to facilitate and promote cross-border cooperation, was presented on 27 May in Gorizia in the presence of Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Franco Frattini and the Mayors of Gorizia, Nova Gorica and Šempeter-Vrtojba.
CEI representatives, co-organizers of the EGTC through the ADRIA A Project (funded under the Cross-border Cooperation Programme Italy – Slovenia 2007-2013) also attended the event.
In his speech, Minister Frattini stressed the importance of the recently born body, which will strengthen the already tied cooperation activities between the cities of Gorizia, Nova Gorica and Šempeter-Vrtojba. “At this stage focusing on practical projects regarding transport, accessibility, healthcare, and culture is crucial” he said.
Min. Frattini also mentioned the work carried out by the CEI and its leadership in the ADRIA A Project - which focuses on the re-arrangement of cross-border accessibility and transport systems - as well as the MFA meeting organized by the CEI on 10 June in Trieste which represented an opportunity to continue the consultations in the field of cross-border and European cooperation.
