CEI Delivers Experience at Regional Conference in Trento on EU Instrument: European Grouping for Territorial Cooperation

On the occasion of the Regional Conference on “The Governance of Cross-border Territories: Models and Ideas for the Brenner Area” held in Trento (Italy) on 22 March, the CEI-ES was invited to exchange views on its experience on one of its priority areas of intervention, cross-border cooperation.

In his opening speech, Deputy Secretary General, Min. Mykola Melenevskyi highlighted the CEI interregional policy in approaching the new EU instrument - the European Grouping for Territorial Cooperation (EGTC).

In particular, he delivered a case study of the CEI “ADRIA A” – a proposal submitted by the CEI in the framework of the INTERREG Programme Italy-Slovenia 2007-2013.

“It represents the first case in which the CEI has promoted the establishment of EGTC between two of its Member States, in view of enhancing cross border, interregional and transnational cooperation”, said Min. Melenevskyi. The Conference was the final event of the special research project “Crossplan – Institutional Solutions for Cross-border Strategic Planning”, financed by the Autonomous Province of Trento and carried out by a research group within the Department of Law of the University of Trento.   The project analyzed “strategic planning” tools in a cross-border perspective, with special focus on comparative and European law in order to identify suitable, long-term solutions for territorial cooperation around the Brenner border, with special regard to the role of cross-border infrastructures.   The CEI-ES expressed its willingness to continue exchanging experience in order to successfully apply the EGTC among its Member States.   Full Report
