On 26-27 April, the CEI-Executive Secretariat Delegation paid a visit to Podgorica in the framework of the Montenegrin CEI Presidency.
SG Roberto Antonione and DSG Nina Kodelja gathered with high government representatives to strengthen political dialogue and focus on the main activities foreseen under this year’s chairmanship.
Meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, Đorđe Radulović and the Minister of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism, Ratko Mitrović provided the opportunity to underline the CEI’s mission in fostering European integration and sustainable development of the CEI countries.
SG Antonione praised Montenegro for the positive role the country had in promoting security, stability and good-neighbourly relations in the region, as well as for its strong commitment towards the CEI.
Min. Radulović emphasised that his country was fully committed both to the CEI and to enhancing regional cooperation, through the priorities of strengthened connectivity, environmental protection, scientific cooperation as well as health, economic and social recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Min. Mitrovic presented the activities focused on environmental protection envisaged in the framework of the CEI Presidency, and welcomed the idea presented by SG Antonione to organise a meeting of the ministers of environment of the CEI countries, dedicated to cooperation on sustainable water issues, to take place in Trieste in October, during the renowned international regatta Barcolana.
