Sensitising the public sector, innovation intermediaries and SMEs towards expanding competencies is the main aim of the Interreg project ACSELL, promoting open innovation ecosystems and integrating the user early in the innovation process following the living lab approach. Since its inception multiple stakeholders have undergone a self-assessment process making use of the ACSELL Online Self-Assessment Tool (OSAT) based on the SCIROCCO maturity model. The goal of this exercise was to capture the stakeholders’ perceptions and experience in designing and delivering demand-driven innovation to start a regional dialogue, in the form of a consensus meeting.
The 1st virtual consensus meeting of the region Friuli Venezia Giulia was held on 7 October to identify strengths and weaknesses of the regional health and social care system in the adoption of demand-driven innovation as well as to discuss how to facilitate the learning and exchange of experience in implementing demand-driven innovation with other local stakeholders.
The key stakeholders who participated in the gathering highlighted the region’s broad and heterogeneous area of interest for promoting open innovation within the health and social framework. Members at the meeting represented organisations belonging to all four areas of interest composing the quadruple-helix approach (Government, Academia, Industry and Civil Society). This diverse participation allowed for a meaningful discussion— underlining the regions’ endeavors for promoting demand-driven innovation and inform about future areas of improvement.

The ACSELL project is funded under the Interreg Europe Programme through the European Regional Development Fund. Access to smart, integrated interregional policy instruments, a vibrant ecosystem and relevant competencies will pave the way towards demand-driven and thus effective and efficient innovation.This will be achieved through study visits based on comprehensive self-assessments, knowledge exchange and mutual learning by identifying transferable good practices and hacking regional policy challenges.
