On 4 November, the Atlas of the Friuli Mountains was presented to the press in Udine, Italy as one of the main achievements resulting from the pilot action implemented by the CEI-Executive Secretariat in the Carnia and Cadore mountain areas, in the framework of the SENTINEL project.
The Atlas, developed during a nine-month study period, data collection and comparison, is a best practice and useful example on how to increase our knowledge and detect the development needs of the local dimension, especially in areas that are marginal and peripheral.
Loris Toneguzzi, the Director of the mountain policy coordination service of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, underlined that "Knowing the mountain better is important for orienting regional policies. It allows us to gather concrete ideas to work in a targeted manner on this territory. The Atlas of the Mountains helps us to better develop future regional policies and to start the right strategies ".
The outcomes emerging from the Atlas highlight the most pressing challenges of these territories: in particular, depopulation and ageing population, less average income, and temporary and seasonal jobs in the most attractive sectors such as tourism are elements which need to be considered when planning future actions to revitalise the mountain areas.
