On 9-10 September, the CEI-ES organised a transnational Cross-Field Visit in the Friuli Venezia Giulia (FVG) region within the framework of the BLUE_BOOST project. In its capacity of project partner, the CEI hosted the project partners from other 6 ADRION regions, who participated together with their respective Blue Growth experts and company representatives.
The visit was an opportunity for delegations to visit local businesses, as well as educational and research institutions active in the field of boatbuilding and coastal protection in the FVG region, in order to learn more about their practice and related innovation challenges.
On day one, participants were welcomed by ARIES, an in-house company of the Chamber of Commerce Venezia Giulia, that provided a general overview of how entrepreneurs in Blue Economy are supported at the institutional level and what kind of Blue Growth innovations are developed in the FVG region.
Delegations had the chance to visit the Monfalcone boatbuilding district, namely Ocean Marine and Alto Adriatico Custom. By sharing knowledge on traditional shipbuilding industry, and some new techniques and tools, discussions focused on how to use them in order to develop tourism activities related to Blue Economy.
Regarding this topic, the ZELAG project is a valuable eco-sustainable example with its hybrid vessel, representing a green solution for public transport in inland and shallow waters (lagoons). Participants had the chance to visit the only Italian museum dedicated to the shipbuilding industry and its impact on the territory - MUCA musem – where also detailed information on the FVG ecosystem of boatbuilding was presented by a technology cluster MareFVG.
On day two the National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics (OGS) presented its activities and best practices in the field of Blue Growth in Trieste, including research, training activities and capacity building. Scientific research is of great importance for improvements in the field of marine environment and Riserva Marina Miramare helped better understand the structure of protected ecosystems and its significance for the community. As for transferring the knowledge on marine biology to the public, CFV participants had the opportunity to learn more at BIOMA museum.
