More than 20 participants from Serbia as well as from Austria, Germany and Hungary, i.e. owners and operators of the biogas plants, representatives of the Serbian biogas association, consulting companies and governmental bodies, gathered in Novi Sad on 21 November 2016, for the final meeting of the project “LCA – GHG emissions of RES production and utilization in Serbia – RESEnviro”.
The event was organised by the Serbian recipient institution, the Faculty of Technical Sciences in cooperation with the Austrian know-how provider, the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences – BOKU.
The project leaders Milan Martinov and Miodrag Viskovic presented the results of the project aimed at transferring knowledge about the application of the Life Cycle Assessment for the evaluation of the environmental impact in Serbia in the field of renewable energy sources.
Special attention was given to the two case studies aimed at evaluating biogas production and utilisation in terms of the Greenhouse gas Emission Savings, which is a unique case in Serbia.
Thanks to legislative measures that should provide more sustainable biogas production through the use of waste materials, the participants had chance to receive information regarding the current trends in the field of biogas waste substrates pre-treatment technologies. Iris Kral and Javier Lizasoain Arteaga presented research activities of BOKU in this field, while Simon Ford from the company Biogas Systems GmbH gave a presentation about the state-of-the-art technology for pre-treatment of lignocellulosic residues.
The final meeting was a good place for the Serbian biogas community to exchange views about the future of biogas production and its sustainability.
