The Final Conference of the WaterLEAP Project was organised in Chisinau on 23 November by the Business Development Group Romania (know-how provider) with the support of the Moldovan know how recipient, the Basin Water Management Authority of Moldova and the Agency “Waters of Moldova”.
The one-year project aimed at transferring best-practice based experience and innovation to water authorities and other relevant and interested local parties, developing a new and innovative way to optimise decision-making in all lifecycle phases of wastewater treatment.
23 actors relevant for the water sector in Moldova such as technology companies, engineers and NGOs as well as representatives of public administration i.e. the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction and four water operators attended the event. A number of problems and barriers in the water sector were identified and possible solutions were discussed, based on a new approach related to innovation and circular economy.
The project leader, Ciprian Nanu from Business Development Group Romania presented the project concept, development and results obtained during the past year. The expert trainers in water innovation, Eef Leeuw and Tom Baur presented some trends in water treatment and a perspective on finance initiating discussions about further possible innovative project developments in the water sector in the Republic of Moldova.
A day before the Final Conference, on 22 November, the WaterLEAP project team, together with Municipality of Balti, Caroma Nord, and the water company Glorin Engineering organised a Regional Workshop at the Town Hall in Balti on “Waste water seen as a resource”. About 20 representatives of the local water sector attended the event (local public authorities, local water company, private companies, media etc.) and best practices were presented.
After the workshop, the project team visited the waste water treatment plant in Balti.
