February 2016 marks the official kick-off of the FUELPAGE project aimed at transferring best practices of fuel quality monitoring from the EU and the Czech Republic to the beneficiary target group in Serbia.
The project has been jointly designed by the Faculty of Chemistry and Technology, Prague (main know-how provider) in cooperation with the Czech Association of Petroleum Industry and Trade, and the beneficiary organisations in Serbia - the Trade Inspection of the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications of Serbia (main beneficiary), the Ministry of Mining and Energy of Serbia, the National Petroleum Committee of Serbia – World Petroleum Council and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Belgrade.
In the forthcoming months, the project will be implemented through a screening and analysis of the fuel quality monitoring framework in Serbia as well as through a presentation of best Czech and EU practices with a tailor-made knowledge transfer to support the efforts of national authorities and other stakeholders in the implementation of relevant EU legislation and the fight against the grey economy.
The project aims at elaborating recommendations and measures for system improvements. The activities will focus on capacity building of the key beneficiary stakeholders in Serbia through trainings and a peer review visit to the Czech Republic.
An expert project Working Group made up of professionals delegated by all project partners has been set up at the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications of Serbia and is to be engaged in the delivery of project results.
The project’s initial phase is expected to be well-timed, since the beneficiaries in Serbia will have gained first experience through the implementation of the recently adopted national framework of fuel quality monitoring in Serbia as well as through the fuel-quality-field-inspection activities carried out in the country. Experience exchange, capacity building, as well as a review of best practices from the EU and the Czech Republic will favourably contribute to an initial system assessment and consideration for further adaptations of the Serbian national fuel quality monitoring legislation and its practical regulation.
The Screening Visit of the Czech know-how provider group to Serbia is taking place on 7-8 March.
The project will be running until the end of November 2016.
