On 27-29 January 2016, the kick-off meetings of the project “Development of a training program on Management of Disaster Prevention, Preparedness and Rapid Response” were held at the premises of the project’s beneficiary institutions, i.e. the Institute of Public Health of Serbia “Dr. Milan Jovanovic Batut” in Belgrade and the Institute of Public Health of Montenegro in Podgorica.
The project - based on the existing collaboration between the two institutions confirmed by a Memorandum of Understanding signed in May 2014 - is to promote a capacity building joint action in the Balkan Region. It is made up of the design and implementation of a training curriculum in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), through the creation of an educational programme based on results from previous experience.
In Belgrade, the project stakeholders, including representatives of the Institute of Public Health of Serbia, the Red Cross of Serbia and of the Italian Superior Health Institute, attended the 2-day seminar where project objectives, the timeline and specific roles of the partner institutions were discussed. On that occasion, Prof. Dragan Ilic, Director of the Serbian Institute, addressed possible challenges, risks and solutions and the list of actors to be involved in the project was finalised.
The meeting was also attended by the Scientific Attaché of the Italian Embassy in Belgrade, Paolo Battinelli and representatives of the United Nations European Center for Peace and Development, Prof. Adamovic and Dr. Milosevic.
The representatives of the Italian Superior Health Institute attended the second meeting in Podgorica on 29 January 2016. It was hosted by the Director of the Public Health Institute Montenegro, Boban Mugosa, with the presence of the Deputy Minister of Health, Mira Dasic and other local personnel who also highlighted the project’s inputs, objectives, and roles of the partners involved. On that occasion, the project was also presented to H.E. Ambassador of Italy in Montenegro, Vincenzo Del Monaco at the Italian Embassy in Podgorica.
The 12-month project is co-financed through a grant within the CEI Know-How Exchange Programme (KEP ITALY) in the framework of the CEI Fund at the EBRD, fully contributed by Italy. The CEI grant amounts to 36,925 EUR out of a total project cost of 73,850 EUR.
