Meeting of CEI Ministers for Economic Affairs in Budapest

On 23 September, 2013  in Budapest, several Ministers for Economic Affairs from the CEI Member States, Deputy Ministers and their high-level Representatives held discussions on topical issues regarding global economic difficulties. The gathering aimed at jointly exploring most appropriate efforts for facilitating an economic recovery.

The Hungarian Minister, Mihàly Varga, mainly  focused on the following topics: answers that could and have been given to the crisis; regional cooperation of SMEs, opportunities for trade development; cooperation in the field of taxation; possibilities for collaboration in the field of energy, transport and employment.

Minister Varga called upon the Ministers to share their respective experience and elaborate concrete proposals.

In an opening statement, on behalf of CEI Secretary General, Amb. Giovanni Caracciolo di Vietri, Mr. Giorgio Rosso Cicogna - Special Advisor to the CEI SG - welcomed the efforts of the Hungarian Presidency in revisiting the CEI Business  Dimension, unable to express its full potential over the last few years.

Mr. Rosso Cicogna recalled the prospects for strengthening the CEI's actions as implementing body for EU co-funded projects, and announced the Secretariat's willingness to organise specific actions in order to support the industries of the region and more specifically SMEs, as explicitly requested by some member Countries.
