Bomb defused, evacuation Gorizia and Nova Gorica over

(ANSA) - TRIESTE, AUG 25 - Operations to defuse the war remnant found Thursday morning at Transalpina Square in Nova Gorica, during work on the renovation of the train station in preparation for Go!2025 European Capital of Culture, ended mid-morning. This was made known to ANSA by the mayor of Gorizia, Rodolfo Ziberna. This is the third clearance in 13 months: other ordnance had been found in July 2023 and last March. Along with about 3,000 Slovenian citizens, the evacuation also affected 1,400 residents of Gorica in the area close to the border. Starting at 7 a.m., residents within a 600-meter radius of the station came out of their homes, with support from Civil Defense and coordination from the Prefecture, and at 10 a.m., the bomb squad went into action, neutralizing the World War II device in just over an hour, allowing them to return to their homes. No emergency or otherwise critical situations occurred. (ANSA).
