Italian criminal fugitive arrested in Slovenia

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, AUG 22 - An action by Italian and Slovenian authorities, supported by Eurojust, resulted in the arrest of a dangerous criminal hiding in Koper, Slovenia, Eurojust announced today. The leader of an Italian organised crime group (OCG) was on the run after being sentenced to 21 years in prison. He had been convicted of numerous crimes, including drug trafficking, extortion, and kidnapping. The Italian criminal, aged 40 and of Calabrian origin, fled on the eve of his conviction in February of this year. The Italian was the head of a criminal organisation that trafficked cocaine across Italy. He was also convicted of robbery, fraud, embezzlement, extortion, kidnapping, and illegal possession of weapons. In a separate trial, he was found guilty of mafia-related charges, according to Eurojust. (ANSA).
