On 28 and 29 March, more than 150 representatives from the business community, attorneys-at-law and arbitrators attended the two-day CEI/supported conference ”From arbitration legislation reform to enhancing the business climate” held in Skopje, North Macedonia.
The event, organised by the Economic Chamber of Macedonia, witnessed discussions focused on the importance of an appropriate legal framework for a further development of arbitration, as a more viable dispute resolution method than the national judicial systems. They also focused on how arbitration could contribute to creating a more favourable business climate.
The five panels covered, in particular, the issues of modernisation of the arbitration legislation in North Macedonian, the positive and negative regional experiences in the field of arbitration, trends in organising arbitration proceedings, arbitration as a more efficient mechanism for resolving construction disputes and investment arbitration.
The participants agreed that issues related to arbitration should continue to be discussed and the Permanent court of Arbitration attached to the Economic Chamber of Macedonia should continue these activities in the future.
This event was co-financed under the CEI Cooperation Fund.
