CEI-supported International Master in Public Procurement Management officially opened at University of Rome “Tor Vergata”

The opening ceremony of the International Master in Public Procurement Management was held at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” on 1 March 2016.

Institutional representatives and academics attended the ceremony; among others Cons. Andrea Orizio,  Italian CEI National Coordinator and Balkans Director at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, who stated “At this time of economic crisis, the role of public procurement is crucial for the growth of the country, as it involves a great portion of the country gross domestic product. In such a framework, I strongly believe the human resource element is one of the most important crucial factor in the excellent execution of the entire procurement process and we shall invest in capacity building programmes, such as this International Master’s in Public Procurement Management”.

The main objective of the Master’s Programme is to raise the academic level and training of public procurement officials, from different backgrounds, to have the capacity to design and administer procurement solutions, to resolve complex strategic, managerial and organisational problems.

The Master’s Programme is co-funded with 100,000 EUR from the CEI Fund at the EBRD contributed by Italy.  The CEI Fund has already successfully sponsored the first three editions of the  Programme, by offering full sponsorship to senior public procurement managers and officials selected from non-EU CEI Member States.

The joint work between the EBRD and the University of Rome Tor Vergata - whose Faculty of Economics is recognised worldwide as a centre of excellence for education in procurement - has produced the first, second and third edition of the Master’s, which have  enabled the  identification of opportunities for improvement, based on feedback from students, professors and EBRD experts. The excellent results achieved during the three previous editions have served as a basis for the continuation and consolidation of the Master’s Programme aimed at enhancing public procurement professionalism in the EBRD’s countries in transition.
