ADRIA A Project: Final Conference in Trieste

The final results of the project ADRIA A (Accessibility and Development for the Re-launch of the Inner Adriatic Area) were presented on the occasion of the Final Conference of the Project on 23 October 2014 in Trieste. The project is funded by the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Italy -Slovenia 2007-2013.

The gathering concluded a four-year activity programme, involving the main responsible Italian and Slovenian institutions in the field of transport, namely the Autonomous Region Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Italian Ministry of Transport, the Italian Ministry of the Environment and the Slovenian Ministry of Infrastructure and Land Use Planning together with local authorities, the ports of Trieste and Koper and several partners (airports, universities, etc.) from both countries.

During the conference the main results of the project were illustrated: from the feasibility studies for the construction of a cross-border light-rail ring (Trieste / Koper  / Divaca / Sezana / Nova Gorica / Monfalcone), carried out by the Italian Railway Company - on behalf of the Italian Friuli Venezia Giulia region and technicians appointed by the Slovenian Ministry of Infrastructure and Land Use Planning, including the improvement of existing routes (such as Gorizia - Nova Gorica) and the new design of the Trieste - Koper railway.

The CEI Executive Secretariat, Lead Partner, highlighted the contribution of ADRIA A in bridging gaps in the transport system of the inner Adriatic area, thus paving the way to the construction of an integrated Italian – Slovene metropolitan transport system. For this reason, the project has benefitted from full support of the DG Mobility and Transport and of the Committee on Transport and Tourism of the European Parliament.

The Final Conference was attended by, among others, the local authority for Infrastructure and Mobility of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, Mariagrazia Santoro; the Mayor of Trieste, Roberto Cosolini; Vice - Mayor of Koper, Peter Bolčič; Councillor of the Province of Trieste, Vittorio Zollia; the Mayor of Šempeter-Vrtojba, Milan Turk.

The welcome address was delivered by Ambassador Margit Waestfelt, CEI Alternate Secretary General.
