ADRIA A project: 6th Steering Committee meeting held in Trieste

The partnership of the project “ADRIA A - Accessibility and development for the re-launch of the inner Adriatic area” gathered on 11 July 2014 in Trieste, on the premises of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, to discuss the state-of-the-art of the project, setting concrete steps targeted to fulfil its objectives. The meeting took place at a crucial moment for the development of the project, entering its final stage.

The representative of the Slovene Ministry of infrastructure and Spatial Planning, Boštjan Fendre informed the partnership about the award of the last two studies needed to complete the railroad metropolitan cross-border transport area, connecting all major cross-border municipalities. The studies will be implemented in the  forthcoming months and presented to the public during the final conference in October 2014.

Paolo Angelini from the Italian Ministry of environment underlined its full commitment to ADRIA A due to its strategic value. He also highlighted that further follow-up activities had to be sought, since the future ADRIA A area would encompass two EU macro-regions: the Adriatic-Ionian and the Alpine Space.

Future capitalisation activities and follow-up actions were also debated upon and will be examined further during the last meeting of the Forum of the metropolitan cities to be organised by ADRIA A on 16 September in Nova Gorica, Slovenia.

The ADRIA A project, led by the CEI, is funded under the Cross-border Cooperation Programme Italy – Slovenia 2007-2013. It aims at improving the accessibility and transport reorganisation in the entire cross-border area, in order to form an integrated Italian – Slovene metropolitan transport area. The project’s partnership embraces 26 partners, among which the Transport department of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Italian and Slovene Ministries of Transport and Environment, and the Veneto Region.
