Danube-INCO.NET - whose implementation phase will cover the three-year period until December 2016 - is a Coordination and Support Action (CSA) aimed at strengthening transnational cooperation in the field of Research and Innovation (R&I) among the countries targeted by the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR).
Funded by the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (INCO-2013), the project was officially launched at a Kick-Off Meeting held in Vienna on 3-4 February 2014.
Nineteen partner institutions, led by the Centre for Social Innovation (ZSI) based in Austria, will coordinate their efforts in order to successfully implement a number of activities with the ultimate goal to support and coordinate R&I policy dialogue in the Danube region. Furthermore, an analysis of on-going cooperation will be carried out, as well as of barriers hindering further cooperative activities in the R&I sector. This exercise shall provide the necessary background to develop joint research agendas and common mechanisms to scale up funding opportunities.
The CEI participates in the project as a full-fledged partner, responsible for the implementation of the activities included in Work Package 3 “Tackling societal challenges: Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in a Bio-based Economy”.
This role complements other initiatives undertaken by the CEI since 2011 in the field of sustainable energy, which received full political commitment during the last three CEI ministerial meetings on Science & Technology. As also highlighted in the recently approved CEI Plan of Action 2014 – 2016, the CEI intends to expand its range of activities in this area of cooperation and promote collaborative actions for the development of a bio-based economy.
