The 5th Annual Meeting of the Regional Cooperation Council on 30 May 2013 in Ohrid, Macedonia was co-chaired by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia Nikola Poposki and the RCC Secretary General Goran Svilanovic.
In his welcome speech, Minister Poposki expressed his confidence that regional cooperation in South-East Europe would soon reach a level of cooperation between the countries of Scandinavia. He also announced that the President of the Republic of Macedonia had decided to postpone the Summit of the South East European Cooperation Process – SEECP, which was to be held in Ohrid on 1 June.
Secretary General Svilanovic presented the RCC Plan of Action 2014-2016, as well as his Annual Report for 2012. In his address, CEI DSG Z.Jovanovic underlined that closer relations between the key players were necessary in order to further strengthen regional cooperation. “CEI-RCC cooperation could serve as a good example in that respect”, he added.
The CEI DSG also took part in the Formal Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the SEECP, on 31 May 2013 in Ohrid. The Ministers discussed the situation in South Eastern Europe, the role of the SEECP as a political forum and the perspectives for the EU enlargement process concerning the countries in the region. The final documents of the Macedonian Chairmanship-in-office of the SEECP, the Ohrid Declaration and Joint Statement were adopted, as well as the 2012-2013 Annual Report of the RCC Secretary General and RCC Strategy and Work Programme 2014-2016.
The annual Chairmanship in Office of the SEECP will be passed on to Romania as of 1 July 2013. For more information: www.rcc.int; www.seecp.gov.mk
