CEI: A Bridge between the Balkan, Danube and Adriatic Regions

On 23 April Amb. Gerhard Pfanzelter, CEI Secretary General,  met with the President of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Renzo Tondo, in order to discuss ways of enhancing the cooperation between the CEI and the Region.

Hon. Roberto Antonione, Chairman of the International Group of Experts (IGE) on the Strengthening of the CEI, also attended the meeting.

“Rendering this organisation even more efficient, enhancing cooperation relations among the 18 CEI Member States as well as the role of Trieste, seat of the CEI, are our main objectives” said Tondo.   Both sides agreed that in the light of the EU’s new policies towards macro-regions, the CEI could play an enhanced role towards the Balkan, Danube and Adriatic Regions. This would further strengthen the already existing cooperation between the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia and the Central European Initiative.
